Magna Carta to Enlightenment to America
![Picture](https://www.editmysite.com/editor/images/na.png)
The early Greeks, the rise of Christianity, the Magna Carta, the Enlightenment and others contributing theories impacted the writing of the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights to help promote liberty, justice and equality not only in America but around the world. American ideals and ideologies were not born in the minds of our framers but were shaped early on by people who knew that "absolute power corrupts absolutely." The revolutionaries of the American experiment and the framers of our government took those ideals and ideologies and executed them in the new nations spawned from their experiences with a tyrannical government. Below are some essays and documents you will need to read to trace back and gain an understanding of where the American experiment began.

Re-cap of first 7 days
So far, we have looked at the need for government. Civilizations since there advent have used some type of system to control, protect, ensure fairness, and provide services for their people. In class your teams brainstormed the purposes of governments and we took notes on what those were. Your teams discussed a scenerion in a small town and played the role of a government to see the difficult task governments have and the vast amount of factors that need to be considered when making decisions that will effect others lives.
We read an essay on absolute power which claimed, "absolute power corrupts absolutely." The essay writer gave specific examples and details to support he claim. We further looked at two types of government, dictatorships and democracy. These two provide a spectrum from one end of the types of government to the other. In dictatorships one person is ruling in democracies everyone has a say. You wrote about the advantages and disadvantages to each.
Lastly we began to examine the early formation of the U.S. democracy and traced its roots back to the Greeks to the reformation to the enlightenment thinkers. We have now begun to examine the Declaration of Independence. We will take it section by section, line by line and reconstruct its ideals and meaning. We will further excavate it to find the causes of the American Revolution.
