The US History course is designed to promote and engage students in higher order thinking and in the disciplines and skills in social studies. The study of United States History includes geography, economics, political science, social and cultural patterns, as well as history. Students will use textbooks, Internet, supplementary text, and various other resources to aid in their education in this course. It is our goal here at Burns High School that each student successfully completes the American History One course. In being successful we hope that each student obtains a healthy grasp of each of the goals and concepts outlined by the state of North Carolina in the standard course of study. The current American History One course covers United States History from the Voyages of Columbus to the End of the Reconstruction era.
